DREAMWIDTH FRIENDING MEME
Heyo!
So after a few plurk discussions, the want to start journaling again a la Livejounal came up a few different places, and this idea was born!
We ask if you participate, that you attempt to post 1-3 time a week, and comment as much as possible to help jump start personal journaling here on dreamwidth. And if you use your journal already (or if you start from here) we'd love a link back to this meme! The more the merrier!
You can also follow this community for both daily writing prompts and a monthly friending meme!
To participate, copy and paste this in a comment, fill it out, and go make some friends!

Date: 2017-01-13 03:57 am (UTC)I grew up with Trek in the background, my dad watched The Next Generation a lot when I was a kid, so there's a real nostalgic feeling that comes with the series overall for me. I'm actually getting back to my roots and trying to watch TNG myself and I'm really enjoying it! I'd like to watch the entire franchise if I can, I'm borrowing it bits at a time from my library.
As for the reboot movies? Eh, I like them, they're flashy and fast - but Beyond definitely makes up for the first two's faults imo (it gave us Jaylah ♥)

The Black Tapes - I was really into it through most of S1 then they lost my suspension of disbelief and I haven't started S2. I still it on my podcast app in case I want to continue but I'm not sure I will
I used to be really into Welcome to Night Vale but I guess I lost interest. I'm still very fond of those early episodes though.

Date: 2017-01-13 10:59 pm (UTC)Largely WWII and the Cold War (which yes, covers a lot of time) but there's just so much interesting stuff. Especially a fan of things dealing with women during wartime (the female Soviet WW2 snipers are especially cool). The nuclear crisis, the space race, Vietnam, how Reagan let the stupid Star Wars program stand between nuclear disarmament, etc.
I'm mostly into the US and the USSR, but I dabble in England and Germany a bit. I' a huge fan of the "historically accurate " type blogs, though most of them seem to have gone inactive.

Date: 2017-01-14 12:44 am (UTC)That does sound lovely. Are you planning on selling any at some point?
Re: meru
Date: 2017-01-14 12:56 am (UTC)I still listen to Night Vale and then there's also their other show, Alice Isn't Dead, which was pretty awesome.
I also love Saga and Myths and Legends for some of the better mythology/folklore podcasts.

Date: 2017-01-14 01:01 am (UTC)A++++ reasoning there. I grew up with Trek myself, mostly Next Gen, DS9, and Voyager. Dad's a Kirk fan and Mom's a Picard fan and all their kids are somewhere in the realm of agreement there. I'll take any of them, but I have a preference for Sisko.
The first reboot movie I sort of adored. The second less so, and I have Beyond to watch but I haven't gotten there just yet (maybe this weekend!)

Date: 2017-01-14 01:07 am (UTC)Fibro is totally the pits.
Haha, I don't think it's a cop out at all. It makes perfect sense to me that it's totally dependent on the variables of the chimes and toilet. What's a red noise if you don't mind me asking?

Date: 2017-01-14 01:20 am (UTC)My two primary periods of focus are the Crusades through the Renaissances and then the World Wars and Cold War so I hear ya there. Yeah I keep thinking I need to get back to some of my history blogging, but lately time's not been on my side.
I love these periods because they're messy and complicated and not easily parsed. I'm big into the intelligence gathering parts of it all, how they developed, pitfalls and successes, that sort of thing.

And yes! Definitely friends. I love talking about Trek and pretty much anything else.
