Friending Meme 2017

DREAMWIDTH FRIENDING MEME

Heyo!

So after a few plurk discussions, the want to start journaling again a la Livejounal came up a few different places, and this idea was born!

We ask if you participate, that you attempt to post 1-3 time a week, and comment as much as possible to help jump start personal journaling here on dreamwidth. And if you use your journal already (or if you start from here) we'd love a link back to this meme! The more the merrier!

You can also follow this community for both daily writing prompts and a monthly friending meme!

To participate, copy and paste this in a comment, fill it out, and go make some friends!

Definitely a bit on the stingy side from my brief testing whacking my own arm with the one I'm keeping for myself. Adding metal beads to them makes them a lot more thuddy, which I prefer, and I want to make some like that at some point, but I don't have the beads yet. The person who showed me how to make these things had one with beads on it that I was definitely admiring, so it's a plan.

What color do door chimes sound like? And what notes does a toilet flush in? Is there variety there?

(also hi, fellow fibro person!)

I'm honestly very bad at articulating myself, aa - but TOS has my heart because it's the first of the series I've actively pursued. And come on it's TOS - it's a lot of fun, the plots still ring with importance, and I adore the entire cast (especially Spock, my darling, green child - and Uhura's a fantastic role model for people like me).

I grew up with Trek in the background, my dad watched The Next Generation a lot when I was a kid, so there's a real nostalgic feeling that comes with the series overall for me. I'm actually getting back to my roots and trying to watch TNG myself and I'm really enjoying it! I'd like to watch the entire franchise if I can, I'm borrowing it bits at a time from my library.

As for the reboot movies? Eh, I like them, they're flashy and fast - but Beyond definitely makes up for the first two's faults imo (it gave us Jaylah ♥)

This is going to sound like a cop-out but I swear it's true--it depends on the toilet and door chime! Door chimes are basically bells or tones, so it's a little easier to identify, which also makes the color clearer. Usually for me, higher notes are lighter colors, and door chimes are usually higher notes. Bells in general are blueish (ymmv though, different people see different colors). Toilets are affected by the shape of the bowl, although most I've heard are somewhere between E flat and F.

Also dude very gentle hi 5, fibro is the pits. :(

Hi!

Largely WWII and the Cold War (which yes, covers a lot of time) but there's just so much interesting stuff. Especially a fan of things dealing with women during wartime (the female Soviet WW2 snipers are especially cool). The nuclear crisis, the space race, Vietnam, how Reagan let the stupid Star Wars program stand between nuclear disarmament, etc.

I'm mostly into the US and the USSR, but I dabble in England and Germany a bit. I' a huge fan of the "historically accurate " type blogs, though most of them seem to have gone inactive.

The Black Tapes S2 I enjoyed though I do admit to preferring their other show Tanis a lot more. I also love Ars Paradoxica and The Bright Sessions a whole lot. Kings Fall AM is also pretty fun.

I still listen to Night Vale and then there's also their other show, Alice Isn't Dead, which was pretty awesome.

I also love Saga and Myths and Legends for some of the better mythology/folklore podcasts.

A++++ reasoning there. I grew up with Trek myself, mostly Next Gen, DS9, and Voyager. Dad's a Kirk fan and Mom's a Picard fan and all their kids are somewhere in the realm of agreement there. I'll take any of them, but I have a preference for Sisko.

The first reboot movie I sort of adored. The second less so, and I have Beyond to watch but I haven't gotten there just yet (maybe this weekend!)

Fibro is totally the pits.

Haha, I don't think it's a cop out at all. It makes perfect sense to me that it's totally dependent on the variables of the chimes and toilet. What's a red noise if you don't mind me asking?

desmodontinae: (hard to be soft)

[personal profile] desmodontinae 2017-01-14 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind at all! For me, strings are varying shades of red--violins and cellos and such. again depending on the tone, it can be brownish red to burgundy to orangey.

And when I am stoned, sounds take on texture as well as color. Plush or glassy, for example. :3

My two primary periods of focus are the Crusades through the Renaissances and then the World Wars and Cold War so I hear ya there. Yeah I keep thinking I need to get back to some of my history blogging, but lately time's not been on my side.

I love these periods because they're messy and complicated and not easily parsed. I'm big into the intelligence gathering parts of it all, how they developed, pitfalls and successes, that sort of thing.

So far I'm actually really loving Picard as a captain enough to give Jim a run for his money ( /w\) And please do see Beyond! It feels more like the episodes did, if that makes sense?

I'd love to talk Trek more often - friends, you think?

...Will definitely be watching it this weekend. You've convinced me. Hee, I do love Jean-Luc.

And yes! Definitely friends. I love talking about Trek and pretty much anything else.

I don't have any posted up on Etsy yet, but the top and bottom ones here are available. Someone else also asked about them on my journal so I'll give them first pick of which one if they decide to get one. $30 for right now, though that might go up a bit once I get them actually set up in my shop. If you're more interested in beaded ones, I can let you know when I have some.
